This Shell earthsafe 10-12 system includes a 1 kw Advanced
Energy Systems inverter.
The inverter was secured to an east facing wall that is not
exposed to direct afternoon sunlight.
A surge arrestor was installed inside the homes main electrical
panel. The arrestor is wired across both legs of the panel to
provide safe and balanced surge protection.
The DC solar electricity comes down from the roof, into the
inverter, where it is inverted into 120 volt AC power. The solar
panels are wired to supply 80 volts of DC power to the inverter.
This power is then efficiently changed into usable household
120 volt AC power. The 120 volt AC power is fed into the homes
main electric panel.
A non-fused lockable AC disconnect switch is installed between
the inverter and circuit breaker panel, to allow for a quick
means of disconnection. The disconnect switch is labeled to notify
electricians working in the future within the home, that solar
electricity is connected.
